Supporting Indigenous women, Other Gender Diversities and Under Representative People in safely accessing conservation spaces

Education Centre & Indigenous Literacy Activities
We believe that education is one of the most important factor to drive changes especially applying our indigenous science and literacy to drive changing and reclaiming our knowledge as Sumatran indigenous people. Working together with our partner Nature for Change, we hold a weekly class Bukit Lawang that is open to the public and currently having 75 indigenous children in Timbang Lawan village, Bukit Lawang area. This is an education program aimed at introducing conservation as a part of human life. Through discussion, presentations, literacy activities and speaker sessions we will share and expand Indigenous knowledge as it relates to conservation. We also have scholarship program for these indigenous children who needs support and currently have 6 children getting monthly supports for their education.

Sumatra Indigenous Women Patrol
Our patrol team consists on 5 indigenous women of Indigenous Batak Toba, Karo, and Melayu. Majority of our patrol team were born and raised next to the Leuser forest area we are trying to protect. Our activities includes conducting regular monthly patrol on the buffer-zone area of Leuser Ecosystem to protect this important lush forest from any illegal activities threatining its own standing; illegal poaching, logging, etc. To date, we are succeeded to secure about 100 hectares from 2023.
Tree Planting Program
Hariara Sendung di Langit is one of the importance principle in our indigenous Batak values that one tree grow strengthen the land and reaching the sky. Thus, we are actively planting trees in order to protect the land and life along with our allies and partners. Working together with our partner Nature for Change and our queer organizations, to date we have planted about 3000 trees in river banks of Medan are and in the buffer zone of Leuser Ecosystem.
Micro-Finance Program
This program supports domestic violence survivor women who lives next to the Leuser Forest to be able to start their new beginning through their entrepreneurship initiatives. This program launched on 2024 and we have been supporting two small business initiatives; snack business and small waring initiatives.
